I Will Know You - 2/7/2010
So, not sure where these lines came from when I wrote it. Sometimes songs are for help with something that appears later. Who knows. It's a mystery.
We first me in the Springtime/I was strong and you were fair/That was many, many years ago/When next we meet, recognize me by the silver in my hair/ I will know you by the Angels that surround you.
The sun rises in the morning over the mountain crimson red and travels from the East to the West while these people look around them to find someone to love without a care in this world for what comes next/I am looking far beyond to that beautiful shore where someday we will gather to sing of what is true and you'll recognize me there and I will know you by the angels that surround you.

Across a Crowded Room - 1/1/15
This is a song I wrote years ago and features Thom, who was kind enough to sing it for me. I always envisioned this as a movie scene. Just need someone to put it in their movie. Thanks Thom!
Across a crowded room, don’t it make you wonder just how small the chances are that in this crowded world two people could be so near to catch each others eyes like this.
It almost makes me believe in providence and destiny and if it wasn’t for my faith in fidelity, I would be returning the promise you are sending me with that look in your eyes.
Across a crowded room, don’t it make you wonder at the timing involved in this movie world where just simple actors who have missed our cues and are wondering what to do with who.
It almost makes me believe in providence and destiny and if it wasn’t for my faith in fidelity, I would be returning the promise you are sending me with that look in your eyes.

By a Pretty Face (Instrumental) - updated 9/15/14
Recorded originally with a vocal-replaced here by the steel guitar with distortion...sort of retro.

From "The Next One" album-2009
We’re alone in this body/We’re alone in this crowd/We’re alone in this generation of ghosts and dreams and memories/Maybe today, you’ll meet somebody who’s not half as mean as this world seems to be.
Yellow sunflower, you won’t last the day/I’d play you a rain song, but the rain’s gone away/I’d shade you underneath the maple tree, but the leaves have fallen into the river and I’m feeling more like a taker than a giver.
Meanwhile, Angels tell us to move a little closer together so they can take our photograph to use against us later/Then, they will astound us to show us we ever so young and move us to forgive ourselves for the childish things we have done, move us to forgive ourselves for all the wrongs we’ve done, move us to forgive ourselves for the wickedness we’ve done and show us a better vision now of what me might become.

This is Sage Griffith's original song and recording.
No Love Song - 1/15/2011
Ain’t it a shame, nobody ever wrote me no love song/I guess I never inspired no girl to write a love song just for me/In all of my years, I never heard one damn song from some sweet girl, who couldn’t get no sleep from thinking all night long about me/I give and I give until it hurts and then I give and I give some more/Ain’t it a shame, nobody ever wrote me no love song
Here I am sitting in a dark room, pen in my hand, spilling out my heart all over this page for you/Talkin’ about you in the Spring with the song birds singing and me walkin’ home alone with the love-sick blues, and you didn’t even notice/I give and I give until it hurts and then I give and I give some more/Ain’t it a shame, nobody ever wrote me no love song/Meanwhile every time the wind blows, I hear your name in a sweet melody/Still nobody ever wrote me no love song/Nobody ever wrote me no love song.

California - 8/23/2010
Thanks to DJB for inspiring this one and also adding a "bass" to this one. One take. What a pro.
I packed up and I headed out just like Neil said he’d do/Ten thousand miles, ten thousand heart breaks to make it through to you/Where is Joni?/Where is Brian?/I think I’m going out of my mind. Oh, California, looks like the place/Like The Doctor said, must be the wrong time,
I wear my heart on my sleeve/I’m looking for a hand to hold on this beach swept by the winds of change/ Those old songs, the lies they told left me here stranded feeling strange/Where’s the love, the peace, the understanding?/Are they crumbling down the canyon into gray?/Oh California, where’s they party? Has the crowd all gone away?
I feel like crying/Could this ocean hold me tears? Would it spill over/ Mothers tell your children not to do what I have done/Tell them to stay home there with their songs of ....California.

Broom in Your Corner - 2009
Same old lesson, when will I ever learn/holding back the tears again/You want to talk about your blues/Any other day I’d listen/ Today, I’ve got my own/I could use a friend.
There’s a broom in your corner, ain’t been moved much lately/That’s my heart.
I’ve got no drummer/I can keep my own time/I’ve got no work/I can write my own lines/If I played for you my very best song, what would it be worth to you/Would you make me a place on your kitchen floor?
There’s a broom in your corner ain’t been moved much lately/That’s my heart.
There’s a broom in your corner collecting dust/That’s my heart.
There’s a broom in your corner looking all tore up/That’s my heart.
There’s a broom in your corner could use somebody to pick it up/That’s my heart.
Would you make me a place on your kitchen floor/Would you push me around on your kitchen floor/would you lay me down on your kitchen floor/would you sweep me off my feet
There’s a broom in your corner ain’t been moved much lately/That’s my heart.
There’s a broom in your corner collecting dust/That’s my heart.
There’s a broom in your corner looking all tore up/That’s my heart.

Don't Be Down on Our Love - 2009
We may be down on on money/We may be down on our luck/That don’t mean we have to be down on ourselves/The work that we do, the people we know, these things they change/They come and they go/So cry if you have to/Go ahead and get it all out/Scream if you need to/Go ahead and shout/Whoever taught you life would be fair/Little darling, I will be there.
You know the tree got the flower/The sun got the sky/When Winter come quickly, bird got to fly/There’s a season to stay and a season to go/ Change it is constant/These things are known/So cry if you have to/Go ahead and get it all out/Scream if you need to/Go ahead and shout/Whoever taught you there’d be no pain/Little darling, every flower needs rain.
Don’t let it hang up your happy, happy day/Whoever taught you life would be fair/Little darling, I will be there/We may be down on on money/We may be down on our luck/That don’t mean we have to be down on our love.

Mexican Saddle Blanket 8/29/2005
I bought a Mexican saddle blanket in Idaho or maybe it was Utah/It don’t really matter, because I don’t own no pony at all/I put it on the Harley and got back out on the highway/If it don’t rain too much, I might not fall off.
It’s been ten days ago since I left out of the desert, feeling as low as the wind was hot/There’s been a change in the weather/There’s been a change in me/‘m feeing no pain.
I never met no Shoshone/If I did, I’d invite him to sit down on my blanket and make up some Indian stories/Then, I would buy them to make us all even/We’d ride our separate ways into the sunset.
It’s been ten days ago since I left out of the desert, feeling as low as the wind was hot/There’s been a change in the weather/There’s been a change in me/‘m feeing no pain.
Meanwhile, the wind blows these mountains into sand dunes/I’m riding over red roads, through the pines, through the canyons/Of course, I’m thinking about my girl/She’s the Spring to my Winter/She’s a meadow of wildflowers/I’m rolling in sunshine/Seems. The faster we run and the harder we try, the farther away we get from what’s real.

Any Surprise 7/07/2008
If I could have your attention for just one minute now that we’ve got the small talk out of the way/Though it’s great to hear that we both like the same bands, I think I’ve got something real to say.
Is this going to be the big confession?/Am I going to put my heart on the line?/Is that anticipation or fear in your eyes/Does this come as any surprise?
And when has unrestrained honesty ever done me any good?/I’m better with a song than with a conversation/What I could use right now to get to some truth is a decent melody and a packet of rolling papers.
Is this going to be the big confession?/Am I going to put my heart on the line?/Is that anticipation or fear in your eyes/Does this come as any surprise?
You know I’ve been talking in circles/Not saying a damn thing/taking the long way around it/Yeah, I’ve been dodging that bullet, acting the damn fool, still looking for the right word after I’ve found it.
I’m singing this song for you that you’re never gonna hear/That’s the saddest line I ever wrote/I’m feeling a pain for you that you’re never going to share/That’s the hardest pain I know.
Is this going to be the big confession?/Am I going to put my heart on the line?/Is that anticipation or fear in your eyes/Does this come as any surprise?

She Takes my Hand 10/21/2009
She takes my hand/I'm alright again/She don't try to change me no/She takes me as I am/People try to complicate me/People try to complicate themselves/People try to complicate everybody else/She takes my hand/I'm alright again/She don't try to change me no she takes me how I am/Some days I worry/Every day I worry/I'm worry every day/I'm worry all the time/My head's a mess from all the books I've been reading/I can't think straight from what my teachers are repeating/I can't tell you nothing about the issues of the day because the newsman spins them around and turns them anyway/Maybe I'm a fool/Maybe I'm out of my mind/Maybe my confusion's just a sign of the times/I'm hoping and praying that I can't get no worse/I'm praying even harder that somewhere in this universe there's somebody who will hear my prayer/There's somebody that will really cares/There's somebody that's gotta plan/There's...Someone help me make a stand/She takes my hand/I'm alright again/She don't try to save me/She takes me for who I am/She takes my hand.
Hold On 10/30/2010
And it makes no sense anymore to lie to myself when most of what I'll do next is reminisce/I'm thinking that we could have shared a kiss and how I sure could you use that memory/Now, it's all a mess, this heart of mine, all caught up in what could have beens
While the pages of my book are turning yellow and I try my best not to hide behind this imagery, I'm throwing out this line in hope some future memory will claim, "Yeah, he was going through a rough time/ Yeah, he came through just fine/He was sinking in clear water, saw the sun shine through/So, he tossed himself a life line, did the best he knew to hold on."
I'm starting a feel a whole lot better/ If I wandered down the block, would the record store be open late/ Maybe my whole problem is I just get too nostalgic, thinking I know what it is I like when I don't even know what it is I've missed/ I have decided to hold back on my judgement/I remind myself again how tomorrow never comes/ Maybe that's as close to mercy as I can confess. Still, I'm thinking we could have shared a kiss.

Oil Change Boogie 10/11/2008
What a mess! This has upright bass and slide.
Momma said, "No you didn't just use my good bath towels to change the oil in your Harley Davidson..."
